Using cement as a sculptural element had never occurred to me before I did this project. As a result, I wanted to achieve a light, airy feeling from a very heavy material. It was a physically demanding process because I was mixing all the concrete by hand; and even with the core made of foam, the piece weighs approximately 150 pounds.
